Shannon Andersen
Shannon Andersen completed her Physiotherapy degree at McMaster University in 1998, and then went on to challenge her manual and manipulation exams, becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) in 2002. In 2005 she became certified in acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She has completed many courses over the past 20 years, with special interests including Kinesiotape Uses and Techniques, Applications of Shockwave, Sport Massage and Dry Needling.
Shannon loves to work with athletes and musicians of all ages and abilities, with a focus not only on return to sport or stage, but also in injury prevention and education, utilizing a hands-on, patient-centred approach. She has worked with Stars on Ice, Tennis Canada, and many levels of athletes and musicians involved in hockey, baseball, gymnastics, race walking, figure skating, squash, drumming, guitar and violin.
Shannon has a robust history in sports herself, from high school synchronized skating, softball and field hockey, to ice hockey, which she played from 1982-1990 with the Leaside Wildcats and then Varsity Hockey for The University of Toronto Blues from 1990-1994, where she earned four OWIAA championships and her Bronze T award. She was recently inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame alongside her 1990/91 and 91/92 ice hockey teammates.
Shannon is very excited to be back in Leaside where she was born and raised. She is very active in the community volunteering as Assistant Coach and Trainer for her three children in both the Leaside Flames and the Leaside Wildcats organizations. She continues to play ice hockey herself, and when not at a rink she loves spending time with her husband and kids at the family cottage, camping, travelling and playing a hand or two of Euchre.
Jenna McEachern
Jenna McEachern graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a professional degree in Physiotherapy and completed her Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 2003 and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy.
She has extensive experience in sports and manual physiotherapy. She has provided therapy services to athletes of all levels on the sidelines and in the clinic. She shares her clinical expertise mentoring and supporting Physiotherapy Students, Residents and Therapists pursuing their manual therapy diploma.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Jenna likes to stay active playing ice hockey, cycling and going to the gym.
Carlo Andreatta
Carlo is a passionate physiotherapist focused on his patients and maximizing their recovery. Carlo has 20+ years of experience treating every type of musculoskeletal injury and has found success in putting his patient’s goals first.
He has taken many different post-graduate courses in orthopaedic physiotherapy and manual therapy. He is credentialed with the MacKenzie Institute of Canada for treatment of neck and back pain. He is certified in Acupuncture through McMaster University’s Medical Acupuncture program.
Carlo has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students over the course of his career. From undergraduate Kinesiology students and Athletic Therapy students, to graduate students pursuing their Masters of Physiotherapy degree or their Masters of Kinesiology degree. Carlo is passionate about educating young clinicians as they begin their careers in rehabilitation medicine.
He has a keen interest in sport and exercise related injuries with experience treating individuals just starting out on their active lifestyle to Olympic and professional athletes. From the youngest of athletes to seniors, Carlo has extensive experience with the differences that athletes face at each stage of their career. Maintaining an active lifestyle is a major contributor to reduced disease and disability throughout life. Having a caring and compassionate physiotherapist, like Carlo, working with you to overcome obstacles in maintaining an active lifestyle is key to lifelong success and health.
Carlo believes that the key to successful recovery starts with empowering his patients to take control of their injury by educating the patient on management strategies, ensuring patients are doing their rehabilitation exercises correctly, using a variety of manual therapy techniques to increase mobility and decrease pain, and ensuring that his patients fully understand their injury and their path to recovery. The better YOU understand your injury the better and quicker YOU will recover. At The Sports Health Experts the clinic’s patient first philosophy aligns well with Carlo’s vision of what physiotherapy is and should be for each and every patient.
Outside of work Carlo enjoys time with his family camping, hiking, biking, canoeing and relaxing. When not spending time in nature, Carlo spends time shuttling his two boys around to various hockey rinks for practices and games.
Dr Julia Hamilton
Dr Julia Hamilton completed her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Dr Hamilton subsequently graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto to earn her M.D. After finishing a residency in family medicine with successful completion of the certification exams by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, Dr Hamilton pursued a one-year fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Toronto and achieved certification with the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) passing the Diploma exam at the end of her fellowship in 2011.
Dr. Julia Hamilton exclusively practices sports medicine in Toronto and has a Certificate of Added Competence in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr Hamilton also has a GP Focused Practice designation and holds the position of Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at The University of Toronto. As well, she is a member of the program committee for the PGY3 Enhanced Skills Residency Program in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is very active in teaching postgraduate medical residents at the University of Toronto from the disciplines of physiatry, rheumatology, family medicine and sports medicine.
In addition to Dr Hamilton’s clinical practice in sports medicine, she has been very involved in the community working with national level and professional athletes. She is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Varsity Athletics at Toronto Metropolitan University. Also, she is the national team physician for the Canadian Beach Volleyball team with responsibility for the team since 2014.
Dr Hamilton previously held the position of Company Physician for the National Ballet of Canada from 2011 to 2022; was the team physician for the Toronto 6ix professional women’s hockey team during their inaugural 2020-2021 season; and worked as an alternate team physician for the Toronto FC MLS soccer team from 2016-2020.
Prior to having her twin boys, Dr Julia Hamilton competed for years at the varsity and national level in women’s squash, and in 2018 was inducted into the University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame for her achievements. Having suffered from a number of significant athletic injuries herself, including rupture of each of her Achilles tendons, Dr Hamilton is able to understand and empathize with the experience of her patients and provide practical guidance to keep them active while recovering.
These days Dr Hamilton is busy trying to keep up with her twin boys on the ski slopes, tennis court, golf course and pickle ball court!
Dr Sumeet Gill
Dr. Gill obtained his Medical Degree from McMaster University. He completed a residency in Family Medicine and subsequent fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is now a Clinical Lecturer with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. He holds a GP-Focused Practice Designation (Sport Medicine) and a Certificate of Added Competence in Sport & Exercise Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada
Prior to his career in medicine he was a strength and conditioning coach, martial arts instructor, and combat sport athlete. He utilizes this unique experience to help his patients recover from injury or optimize their performance. He has provided event coverage for the University of Toronto & York University Varsity Athletics. He is a practicing family physician and participates in the training of family medicine residents.
Outside of medicine he enjoys weight training, video games, and continues to train and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Adiba Hakim
Hello! My name is Adiba and I am the Office Manager at The Sports Health Experts. My journey into the field of Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation found its roots early on while I was an impressionable freshman at the University of Toronto completing my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology and Human Biology. Over the last 10 years, my diverse experiences in sport research and the health/wellness industry have instilled an appreciation and passion for optimizing the mind and body’s potential through sport and exercise.
At The Sports Health Experts, I am driven by our multidisciplinary team environment where a positive exchange of ideas supports patient outcomes to restore and maximize their strength, movement, and overall well-being. I enjoy being a part of this collaborative process while building relationships with our patients and ensuring they receive exceptional service.
In my spare time, you will find me attending Pilates or sweating it up in a Zumba class! I love exploring new restaurants and cafe-hopping in search of my next coffee craze.
Shiela Sotto
Nick Reyes
Nick Reyes is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy. Prior to becoming an RMT, he graduated from the University of Toronto where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
Nick has a passion for helping people function and feel at their best. Growing up with a competitive sports background in swimming and volleyball sparked his curiosity of the human body and how it functions. He utilizes his sports knowledge combined with his kinesiology background to help his patients recover from injury and return to their activities as soon as possible.
He uses a variety of techniques including deep tissue massage, active release techniques, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations and stretching during treatment to address his patients’ needs and enhance performance.
Outside of the clinic, you can find Nick playing volleyball, going for a swim or teeing up for a round of golf. He is also an avid fan of the Toronto Raptors.
Allegra Gracile
Dr Kate Reilly
Dr. Kate Reilly completed her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph. She subsequently completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario, Family Medicine residency at the University of Calgary, and her fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Reilly then went on to complete a second Master’s in Health Practitioner Teacher Education through the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
Dr. Reilly practices a combination of Sport and Exercise Medicine and Family Medicine, where she also has an interest in Gender-Affirming Care. She has her certification with the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine, has her Certificate of Added Competence in Sport and Exercise Medicine through the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and has her GP focused practice designation. In addition to clinical work, she enjoys teaching patients, medical residents, medical students, and her colleagues, and she holds a faculty position at the University of Toronto Department of Family Medicine.
Dr. Reilly has previously completed event coverage through residency for the Toronto Varsity Blues men’s football, men’s hockey, and women’s hockey teams. She has provided event coverage for the York Lions women’s hockey team since 2019.
Dr. Reilly’s philosophy of care is that movement is medicine, but it should be enjoyable! As someone who has struggled with multiple joint injuries including patellar instability and a multiligament knee injury, she can empathize with the challenges various injuries can bring and is determined to help her patients succeed with their return to sport.
Outside of work, Dr. Reilly has a variety of hobbies she likes to stay engaged in, from ballet class, pilates, and running to knitting and travelling. She is always looking for new activities to try!
