Our sport medicine doctors genuinely care that you get better and stay active while you recover so you will never hear “just rest” from us. They continuously reassess your progress with the treatment plan to ensure it is effective and consider additional options to resolve your concerns as quickly as possible.

Dr. Hamilton thinks outside of the box, and her expertise and treatment approach have helped me with painful conditions like Achilles tendinitis, tennis elbow, shoulder dislocation, rib strain, etc.

There is no better healthcare team around than Dr Julia Hamilton and Shannon Andersen PT for any MSK issue.
Not only are they accessible but they are the ultimate experts – extremely knowledgeable and always able to provide helpful care that leads to recovery. Plus, they offer their help with care and compassion. The many friends and family members who I have sent to Julia and Shannon would also agree!

Julia and Shannon have been instrumental in helping our family of professional and competitive athletes for 20 years. They also find time to see the countless referrals we have made to them. We trust them 100%.

Doctors that are also athletes and patients means we get you

Dr. Julia Hamiliton and Dr Sumeet Gill are both athletes themselves and have had their share of injuries over the years. It makes a significant difference when your doctor has experienced the exact same injury themselves so they understand what it feels like physically, mentally, and emotionally, and can provide you with practical advice and guidance.

FAQs

ARE SPORT MEDICINE DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS COVERED BY OHIP?

A visit with our sport medicine doctors is covered by OHIP if you have a valid health card. However, some injections and procedures are not covered by OHIP such as hyaluronic acid injections and platelet-rich plasma injections. If you do not have a provincial health card, or are from out of the country, you will be required to pay a fee for the appointment.

WHAT SERVICES ARE NOT COVERED BY MY PROVINCIAL HEALTH PLAN?

At The Sports Health Experts, we provide a number of injections for our patients and keep the products to be injected in stock at the clinic for your convenience. The injection material (steroid, hyaluronic acid) is not covered by OHIP and you will be required to purchase it at the time of your injection visit at the clinic or a prescription for the product to be injected can be given to take to a pharmacy to fill and then a follow up appointment to return with the injection product and have it injected must be booked. Extended health insurance plans may reimburse all or part of the cost with submission of the receipt for the product depending on your policy.

In addition, some other requests may require you to pay out of pocket such as a doctor’s note, a letter for a third party (gym, golf club, camp, lawyer), or a prescription renewal without a doctor visit, since these services are not covered by OHIP.

DO YOU DIRECT BILL MY INSURANCE?

We do not provide direct-to-insurance billing for any insurance providers. All patients will need to pay for their services at The Sports Health Experts and then request reimbursement themselves through their insurer.

DO YOU ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS?

The Sports Health Experts is a cashless office so we will accept payment for services using any major credit card or by e-transfer to info@sportshealthexperts.com. Please note that if you have an outstanding balance on your account with us you will not be able to book any further appointments or services with us until it has been paid.

Is there a fee for a missed appointment or a late cancellation?
We are committed to providing all of our patients with exceptional care. When a patient cancels last minute, or fails to show for their appointment, they prevent another patient from being seen. At least 24 hours notice is required for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling for ALL of our providers (doctors, physiotherapists and massage therapists). Appointments cancelled or changed with less than 24 hours notice and missed appointments will have the credit card on file charged. The fee must be paid before rescheduling or attending any future appointments. In the event there is no credit card information on file, no appointment with any provider can be booked until the fee has been paid and any existing bookings will be cancelled.
DO YOU ACCEPT WSIB (WORKPLACE INJURY) OR MVA (CAR ACCIDENT) CASES?

We do not treat MVA or WSIB cases and are not a registered WSIB service provider. At The Sports Health Experts our focus is on acute or chronic musculoskeletal injuries related to exercise, dysfunction or biomechanics.

I AM A RETURNING PATIENT OF DR HAMILTON, DO I STILL NEED A REFERRAL?

If it has been more than 12 months since you have been assessed by Dr. Hamilton (even if it is for the same concern), a doctor referral is required. If you have been seen by Dr. Hamilton within the past 12 months for the exact same issue you are making an appointment for at The Sports Health Experts then a referral is not required.
